Reminder: School Resumes Aug. 11

The first day of school in Milton is Aug. 11. The police department would like to urge motorists to pay special attention when they drive around schools and in neighborhoods, especially in the morning and afternoon when schools are opening and closing.

Be prepared for a child to dart out into the road and remember to reduce your speed. Also, stop for school buses that are loading or unloading students. It's illegal to pass a stopped school bus, even in a parking lot, when its red lights are on.

Students often lack experience in dealing with traffic. Motorists can help reduce risks to kids by following these suggestions:
  • Slow down around school and residential areas.
  • REMEMBER: THE SPEED LIMIT IN A SCHOOL ZONE IS 25 M.P.H., and always watch for kids.
  • They may be running late, get distracted and forget to look for cars.
  • Finally, remember to drive with extra caution during inclement weather.
